EFT Tapping - Emotional Freedom Technique

We all have beliefs that we accept to be true. But what if they aren’t true and we are holding on to them? This may be holding you back from accomplishing your goals. EFT Tapping is a tool that allows us to change dysfunctional beliefs and emotions on a subconscious level.

What’s involved? You make a verbal statement while tapping different points along traditional Chinese meridian pathways. Try it! It only takes a few minutes. What do you have to lose? (Go hide in the bathroom if you need to)

The Statement: (Has 3 parts)

“Even though”

(negative belief about yourself, dysfunctional emotion)

I totally and completely accept myself.

It helps if this statement has a negative in it. Why? Because our subconscious mind can’t hear a “no”.

Using a “No” or “Not” in the EFT Tapping Statement is a Great Idea! | Tessa Cason

If we want to make changes in our lives, truly transform our lives, we have to eliminate the unhealthy, dysfunctional beliefs. Our beliefs are stored in the subconscious. The subconscious mind does not hear the word “no.” When you say, “I am not going to eat that piece of cake,” the subconscious mind hears “Yummm! The subconscious mind does not hear the word “no.” When you say, “I am not going to eat that piece of cake,” the subconscious mind hears “Yummm! Cake! I am going to eat a piece of that cake!”

Tap each point about seven to ten times while making the statement:

1st point: The inner edge of the right eyebrow, “I fear the unknown.”

2nd point: Right temple, just to the side of the eye, “I fear the unknown.”

3rd point: Just below the right eye on the cheekbone, “I fear the unknown.”

4th point: Under the nose, “I fear the unknown.”

5th point: Under the lips, “I fear the unknown.”

6th point: Under the knob of the right collar bone, “I fear the unknown.”

7th point: Three inches under the left arm pit, “I fear the unknown.”

8th point: Top back of the head, “I fear the unknown.”

When you have tapped each point and made the statement, take stock of yourself. Are you yawning? Can you take a deep breath? This means your body has accepted the changes and remove the blocks and you can “breath a sigh of relief”. If not, do Eye Rolls.

Eye Rolls:

  • With one hand, tap continuously on the back of the other hand between the 4th and 5th fingers.

  • Head is held straight forward, eyes looking straight down.

  • For 6 seconds, roll your eyes from the floor straight up toward the ceiling while repeating the statement. Keep the head straight forward, only moving the eyes.

  • Finish with another deep breath.

If you are not able to take a deep breath, there may be some underlying dysfunctional beliefs that are blocking the statement from clearing. For example, after tapping and doing eye rolls for the statement “I fear the unknown” and you are still not able to take a deep breath, ask yourself, “Why do I fear the unknown”? You might have answers like: “I don’t have the skills and tools to handle the unknown” or “It’s outside my comfort zone.” The answers can then be made into tapping statements and tapped.

Alternative tapping location: Instead of the eight points, you could use the karate chop point while repeating your statement.

Finish your session with the statement “I totally and completely accept myself.”

Not sure what statement to make? Start with this one “It’s not ok or safe for my life to change”. Studies show that most people don’t believe this and it will open the path to get you started.
